3 ways to get the most out of your wedding photography experience.
Wedding season is upon us! For wedding photographers in western Canada (including Alberta and British Columbia), we are experts at this season. However, for you (bride and/or groom), you may be finding this once in a lifetime moment overwhelming. I’ve got your covered! If you’re looking for general wedding planning tips, check out my last blog post. If you’re looking for a deeper look into your wedding photography experience, read along . . .
Alberta weddings typically include a warmer climate, this is why spring and summer are some the best seasons for a wedding. The truth is, Alberta winters are harsh and the warmer weather creates a light, fun and breezy vibe for your wedding day. However, that’s not to say I haven’t photographed some really neat winter weddings. If you’re still on the fence when it comes to the best date for your wedding, feel free to reach out! I have all the pros and cons.
British Columbia weddings also trend on the side of a warmer climate which also means brides and/or grooms prefer a late spring, mid summer or early fall wedding date. British Columbia is very green and has some vast, amazing landscapes. This creates for some really amazing backdrops for your wedding photography.
Regardless of your location, every bride and groom tend to have one thing in mind for their wedding day – they want to ENJOY it. There are a ton of small details to keep track of, so that’s why my last blog post includes wedding planning tips to get those details out of the way! I recommend checking out those tips, before diving into these wedding photographer tips.
Once all the big planning details are out of the way, I like to sit down with the bride and/or groom and discuss what they would like their wedding photography experience to look like. Each couple has a slightly different experience. Some couples wish to have professional, staged and posed photos whereas others want to capture the essence of their wedding day and see everyone’s true expressions through their photos. I love and specialize in both aspects of wedding photography!
After discussing what the bride and/or groom would like, I talk about how we can make that happen. Turns out, there are some key things that need to happen to make all their wedding photography dreams come true. I don’t want to overwhelm them, but getting these key items out of the way early is how they can be present on their special day and how I can do my job best.
Here are my 3 must haves to maximize your wedding photography experience:
1) Proper wedding makeup goes a long way! Truth is your day will be long, but in the best way. You need a lot more products than just your average daily make up routine. I almost always recommend hiring a makeup artist / makeup professional / MUA to help with your special day. Luckily in both Alberta and British Columbia, you can find some seriously talented wedding makeup artists and professionals. For a list of my go to makeup artists / makeup professionals / MUAs, send me an email!
2) As a professional wedding photographer, I will definitely have questions throughout the big day. Sometimes these questions come up and can’t be answered BEFORE the wedding. I don’t want to bother you on your special day, so it’s important to have a close friend, family member or wedding planner for me to go to for questions. Deciding on who this person will be ahead of time will make for a smooth wedding photography experience.
3) A wedding day is typically lengthy and important! As your wedding photography, I’ll come with a variety of accessories and tools to you the best shots, and all those shots we discussed before your wedding day. Having a designated area for me to put all my stuff is also an important factor. I’m not asking for a dressing room with a rider filled with snacks and beverages – I’m not that cool! But a small space for me to keep my items, so in a quick instance I know where they are always.
Hey! Your special day is important, and I want to make it special so you’ll have these memories captured forever. You deserve it! If you’re still in the early stages of your wedding planning and you have stumbled upon this blog, welcome! Maybe my wedding photography packages will help you in choosing the right wedding experience for you and your partner.
