I’m currently in ‘out of office mode,’ and taking a well deserved break from work for the first time in YEARS. Completely unplugged & leaving my laptop behind. (Don’t worry, this blog post was written before I left so I’m not scrambling to get a monthly photography blog written). I am truly embracing the term ‘unplugged’ and only leaving a teeny tiny bit of room to post authentically on Instagram stories. Mostly because . . . well, getting away brings me so much clarity and sparks inspiration and I still want to be able to share my experience with you! If you’re curious, make sure you’re following along at @rosewarrenphotography.
There’s something about the open road that gives me a sense of freedom therefore; putting my brain in day dream mode. It’s where my best business ideas live, especially when it comes to photography shoots and inspiration. I’m lucky enough to live and travel in Western Canada, so the road trip is filled with endless beauty. Nature fills the side lines including fields of green, trees as tall as they sky and mountain tops with breath taking views. I obviously brought my camera which means I’ll likely get some seriously stunning shots on the way! Having left my computer behind, there won’t be any in the moment edits. I’ll be sure to share my coastal and mountain photography finds when I get home!
I did some digging, and figured out why I feel so inspired in my photography business when I take time off. Here’s what I found:
1.Time off makes room for authentic creativity. Our brains tend to do their best when they are relaxed and rested. Without the overwhelm of my weekly routine and shift work at my ‘day job,’ I tend to find myself more relaxed and chill than ever. Therefore; allowing my brain to natural wonder and almost become ‘bored.’ This so called boredom leads to a ton of creative ideas. I have to confess, I do need to tailor it back a bit. My day dreams get pretty BIG sometimes.
2. Having a trip planned gives you something to look forward to. Having something to look forward to like a trip brings ‘hope.’ This hope is what keeps us going in those auto pilot times where you’re just getting through your normal routine. The change up or ‘hope’ in this case, brings a lot of joy therefore; sparks inspiration.
3. Time spent in nature sparks creativity and inspiration. Nature is a creativity and inspiration inducer! The beauty of it all opens up parts of our brains that holds space for creativity. Fresh air and especially ocean air brings clarity on certain ideas or business ventures you may have had.
