Summertime Photography

My favourite time of year is summer. It’s reminiscent of my childhood and the freedom that comes with warmer weather. You worry less about dressing for the weather. You tend to drop the crazy routine that Fall, Winter and Spring bring. And you really start living in the moment!

Summer time back home (in Newfoundland) brings a consistent ocean breeze and warm sun that gives the gift of a tan and freckles. Here in Western Canada, I feel glimpses of summer that reminds me of home. Especially when I’m on the west coast and I get the ocean breeze. Not to mention, as a photographer in Western Canada, it’s my favourite time for photoshoots because it means more shoots outdoors!

Whether you’re looking for family photoshoots, elopements, engagement or maternity, summertime is the ideal time for the majority of my clients. And I get why! My top 4 reasons why photoshoots in the summer are the best:

1.Beautiful backdrops. The best kind of photography backdrops are natural ones. Everything is more or less in bloom and full of bright colour in the summer time.

2. Lighting perfection. Because the sun is so high in the sky during summer time (at least here in Western Canada, British Columbia and Alberta), the lighting is almost always perfect and brings out the best in every shot.

3. It brings a lighter energy. Typically, if you’re off doing something in the summer time – you’re in a great mood. The weather is fabulous and you’re spending quality time with loved ones. Not to mention, any time I have photographed children outdoors, they are always having a great time exploring. Trust me, children in their element make for the best photos.

4. Outfits are easy. Put on a beautiful dress or a nice top and shorts, and you’re ready to go! I make it even easier for you by providing access to my client closet with every photoshoot. Send me a message if you’re interested!

The regions I service for photography, including Fort McMurray and the rest of Alberta, Canada, are dry this time of year. However, I’m amazed by all the culture and colour that the communities provide. It sure makes my job of finding perfect photography location a lot easier! Plus, I love connecting with all the fellow local businesses and finding ways to collaborate.
