Do you have a family member or loved one that dreads your annual photoshoot? I see this a lot as a family, couples and wedding photographer. Turns out, folks in Western Canada aren’t much different about photoshoots than anywhere else in the western world. There’s always one family member who is looking forward to capturing sentimental moments, and another loved one who isn’t into it as much. That’s okay!
Although I am typically engaged in the moment when executing your photoshoot, ultimately a photoshoot is about capturing the authentic moment while finding ways to make sure everyone is comfortable in the space around them. That’s where the connection and emotion happens AKA – the magic!
You photos are always based on positive qualities which means it’s my job to make sure you’re enjoying the moment without worrying, feeling shy or embarrassed. I just want you to have a great experience! Now although a lot is up to me in your photoshoot, there’s a couple things you and your loved ones can do ahead of time to make things a little more FUN.
Here’s how to get that great experience from your next photoshoot:
1.Props or activities! Some people love them, others not so much. If you’re into props then it can be an easy way to get a pose or a shot that is beautiful, stunning and all the things. For example, I can get you and your partner to do a dance which creates movement in your photos.
2. Don’t stress about the outfits. Wear what you’re most comfortable in and please note, my client closet is complimentary to any photoshoot package you choose.
3. When it comes to children and photoshoots, my best tips are to bring their favourite snacks, toys for when mom and dad are doing their single sessions and allow them to play in the elements. They may get their nice photoshoot clothes dirty, but hey! It’s worth the shot. Plus, that’s what the washer and dryer is for.
4. You can really up level your photoshoot by making it picnic style. Bring a nice bottle of champagne, or even order a charcuterie board. Both make for perfect photoshoot props and then when we’re done, you can sit back and enjoy at your photoshoot location.

5. Music is a great way to keep things light and break the mood. I’m always down for music at my photoshoots, and quite honestly, I encourage it! So feel free to bring your bluetooth, or request one upon booking.
Still not convinced? Send me a message or DM on Instagram. I’d be happy to come up with a plan to make your photoshoot FUN for everyone involved.
