An experience for the books that had both myself and Ang being reminded why we do what we do!
Last April (2022), I was in absolute awe after my first 1:1 mentorship with Myrtle & Moss Photography‘s Ang McCabe. I knew when I stumbled across her Instagram page ages ago, I found someone who was passionate and a straight up photography boss! Upon completing last years mentorship, I knew I would be up for doing it again and maybe even yearly if possible!
This year I was honoured to be a part of an elopement on Vancouver Island alongside Myrtle & Moss Photography. The landscape was stunning, the skylines never ending and the couple truly in love. I learned so much, and as a wedding photographer in the current environment of diluted content online, it was a great reminder of why I love what I do. Social media is inundated with content that all looks the same. It has us quickly scrolling instead of taking in a captured moment or memory. This shoot gives you all the feels, and is the kind of photography that stops you in your tracks and has you wanting more.
Spoiler alert: we got to work on an actual elopement! This beautiful couple was actually getting married this day, and what a magical moment to capture it all.
Here’s what I learned from the mentorship
1. A deeper understanding of couples and elopement shoots.
2. A better understanding of my equipment, especially my camera (and manual mode).
3. Ange’s perspective on her magnificent ability to story tell and direct through photography.
4. Proper poses & placement to maximize space, decor and designs.
I’ve learned so much from Ang, and am so grateful for the opportunities to see her work in magical settings like this one. Ang always puts an emphasis on storytelling, light and movement, emotive imagery and romance. & truth be told ~ I’m here for it!
